Maddie Purpura is a Licensed Specialist Clinical Social worker who works alongside others to listen, validate, and empower them as they heal. Maddie specializes in helping individuals process, cope with, and heal from traumatic experiences that have become "stuck" or have been too overwhelming to face alone. She is experienced in addressing trauma rooted in attachment, upbringing, relationships, and abuse (emotional, physical, sexual). She enjoys helping people understand the “why” behind emotions that might be confusing or difficult to cope with. Maddie also has experience working with mood disorders, grief and loss, and academic or college-related stressors. She works well with teenagers, college student and adults.
Through her lived experiences and professional education, Maddie recognizes the importance of a trusting therapeutic relationship and the bravery in seeking help. Maddie bases all therapeutic interactions on the importance of her clients feeling in control, understood, seen, and heard. She strives to meet all her clients with gentleness, patience, and unconditional positive regard. Maddie is committed to tailoring treatment to the individual needs of each client by using a pool of therapeutic approaches including Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Attachment-Based Therapy, Trauma-Informed Therapy, and IFS-Informed Interventions.
Maddie serves clients out of the Manhattan office and via Telehealth.
